As the Sector Skills Council responsible for the health sector, one of our main functions is to develop, manage and update competences/NOS as the needs of the sector change, as work patterns shift, and as new operational practices, legislation and technologies are introduced. This ensures competences/NOS remain useful and effective.
Review of Health National Occupational Standards Concludes
During 2020-21 Skills for Health reviewed 97 NOS used widely across the UK to inform workforce development activity and, in particular, to inform apprenticeships and qualifications for Healthcare Support Workers.
The NOS included a selection from the following suites:
- Clinical Health Skills
- Children and Young People’s Health Services
- Emergency, Urgent and Scheduled Care
- General Healthcare
- Health Informatics
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Perioperative Care Support
A consultation with stakeholders from all 4 home nations took place during September and October 2020 and the revised NOS were approved by the UK NOS Panel in March 2021. The Skills for Health Tools have been updated to ensure users have access to the most up to date NOS.
