“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

We recently welcomed Deeraj Kumar to the team, but he already feels like one of the family. Take a few minutes from your day to discover more about him and discover why we’ve so delighted to have him on board.

  • What experiences led you to work for WD Trust?

I have had quite a few journeys since arriving at WD Trust. After university (more than a decade ago now -time flies) I gained myself a graduate job for a software house specialising in insurance broker software, I spent a 12 months before moving into the Legal Sector as a software developer (I lasted 2 months) and soon changed job roles within the company to a software trainer (I lasted 6 months) before finally settling as a Project Manager. I spent 5 years learning and gaining further qualifications before moving to another legal software provider company (I spent 12 months there). My journey into the health sector started after I left the legal sector and I started working for Primary Care software provider as Project Manager. After 2 years I decided I needed a break from Legal and Health and ventured as a contractor into the Fleet Industry; it soon came apparent after 3 months, I missed the NHS! I found a permanent Project Manager role providing Medics software. After 2.5 years I joined with WD Trust; going strong.

  • What does an average day look like for you?

I would like to say it varies from day-to-day. However, I wouldn’t be a good project manager if that happened! The projects vary in size, difficulty and timescales however in all the project management world a good project plan with processes is key. I mainly provide project management to all of the digital solutions (moving department by department at a steady pace) I have created processes documentation/project plans for the implementation teams and in the process of doing similar documents for the learning team. I undertake project calls/stakeholder meetings/escalation meetings where necessary on-site. Anything project management related is directed towards me. Also, I recently assisted in finding a new project management tool for WD trust – Digital Solutions. This is in its early stages of being implemented until new working processes are derived.

  • What do you enjoy most about your job?

If I could articulate in one word: everything! I will elaborate, however, firstly taking a new step from a heavy corporate organisation; to a not-for-profit(charity) organisation is the best decision I have made (in any life project!) I enjoy the culture, the work ethic and most of all the support from colleagues. Everyone helps, and where someone can’t help, they look to see if they can help! On the flip side, the projects are challenging, and I suppose anyone who needs to keep an active brain needs a challenge now and then.

  • What upcoming projects are you working on?

I am working of a variety of upcoming projects involving each of our digital solutions. We are currently working on a huge LearnSpace implementation project, which is an exciting challenge for us all with the team putting in the effort to make the subset project within the main project a success. Upcoming in the new year, we have a few excting projects kick-starting (currently in their early stages), however, I cannot say anymore right now!

  • In a perfect world…

Everyone would work 4 days a week, with nap pod breaks after lunch…
