The healthcare workforce is highly mobile. Training is often repeated unnecessarily when people move around the system, wasting precious time and money. The Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) addresses this issue by setting the benchmark standard for statutory and mandatory training and recognising employers that deliver against the benchmark.

Initially developed in 2013 by Skills for Health working with subject matter experts from across the UK, the CSTF has since been refreshed a number of times. Since 2019 Skills for Health has worked in partnership with Health Education England to manage a version of the CSTF specifically for NHS organisations in England.

We now look to the future and we are pleased to announce that the information available to the sector about the CSTF has been updated and given a fresh new look on our website. To access the latest information, advice and guidance please click here.

Skills for Health are the leading authority in framework development, commissioned by national health bodies and government, guiding national occupational standards, competencies and capabilities frameworks, as well as making skills and training simple to navigate. Read here how our experts can work with you.
