From today, the NHS invites patients, staff and experts to share their experiences of the health service to help shape the government’s 10 Year Health Plan.

According to Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), responses to the consultation will help to shape the Plan which centres around three key themes: hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention.

The public are invited to share their experiences, views and ideas for fixing the NHS via an online platform, change.nhs.uk, which will be live until the start of next year. The 10 Year Health Plan is due to be published in spring 2025.

Welcoming the move, Managing Director of Research and Consultancy at Skills for Health, Jonathan Czul said:

“Against the backdrop of record demand for care and an ageing population, it’s encouraging to see that government has decided to canvas a wide range of views on how to improve our NHS for the long-term.

“As a trusted partner of the healthcare sector, Skills for Health has witnessed many of the services’ challenges first-hand. Chief among these challenges, in my view, are staffing and management capacity.

“Ensuring that the right people are in place to provide patients with the appropriate level of care is at the heart of ‘fixing’ our NHS. Uncovering ways to enable better access to care or unlocking new skills development for example, will help to bring patient demand and services into greater equilibrium, and so we welcome this root and branch initiative to help sustain our NHS and ensure it is fit for the future.”
