National Occupational Standards for Resilience and Emergencies

Strengthening the resilience workforce through nationally recognised standards
As the risk landscape of the UK continues to evolve, the need for a well-prepared, skilled workforce has never been greater. Resilience professionals play a vital role in ensuring that organisations, communities and the nation as a whole can effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from adverse events.
Industry-driven standards for whole of society resilience
The National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Resilience and Emergencies are designed to provide a comprehensive, structured national resource to be used in the development of the resilience workforce. They outline the knowledge, skills and understanding required to effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from risks and emergencies.
Aligned with the UK government’s vision for a more resilient society, these standards will guide recruitment, training and performance management for organisations involved in mitigating, planning and responding to emergencies and crises. They are applicable across public, private and voluntary sectors, providing the competences needed to strengthen preparedness.
Developed in partnership with the UK Resilience Academy
The National Occupational Standards for Resilience and Emergencies have been developed by The Workforce Development Trust (parent group to Skills for Health) in partnership with the UK Resilience Academy. The standards, previously known as the NOS for Civil Contingencies, were created with input from over 375 industry experts, resilience professionals and key stakeholders. The extensive cross-sector consultation ensures the standards reflect a comprehensive approach to resilience, empowering the workforce to address current challenges while preparing for those of the future.
